  • Bcci Confirms Rishabh Pants Covid Positivity Says He Contracted The Virus On July 8

BCCI confirms Rishabh Pant’s Covid positivity, says he contracted the virus on July 8

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has confirmed that wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant indeed tested positive, but it’s not a recent phenomenon, rather it has been seven days. According to the cricket governing body in the country, the 23-year-old player had tested positive on July 8 itself.

“Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant nears completion of his self-quarantine period while training assistant/net bowler Dayanand Garani has tested positive for COVID-19,” BCCI said in a release.

“Pant tested positive on 8th July. He is asymptomatic and currently undergoing self-isolation at the place where he reported positive. He is being closely monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and is on his way to recovery,” the release added.

The board also quashed all rumours that Pant will not be able to join the Indian squad for the three-day warm-up match in Durham. “He will be able to join the squad in Durham after returning two negative RT-PCR tests,” said the press release.

However, the board also confirmed that being in close contact with throwdown specialist Garani, bowling coach B. Arun and players Wriddhiman Saha and Abhimanyu Easwaran will have to undergo 10-day isolation and will remain in their respective rooms in the team hotel in London.

“To mitigate any further risks, the Indian contingent is taking the Lateral Flow Test on a daily basis,” added the release.

Guys are hungry for the series win: Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie sets the tone for Finale clash vs SA

The Irish team is aiming at something that could be a thing of beauty in their cricketing history, winning a series against a team of the stature of South Africa. When they take the field in The Village, Dublin on Friday, the Irish captain Andrew Balbirnie wants to make sure that the players are up and ready for the momentous occasion. “You have to look at Friday, we could potentially win a series. We haven’t won a home ODI against a top-eight team so that’s another thing to tick off the list, but I think the guys are eager and hungry to win a series,” he was quoted as saying in the Ireland cricket’s website. The occasion, after providing Ireland with a big series win against a top eight ODI nation, but would also give the Irish men an opportunity to lift themselves to the third position on the Cricket World Cup Super League standings. But the 30-year-old skipper believes that it is more than all of it, it is rather about making strides in the right direction and showing the world that limited resources cannot stop them from achieving the big goals. “We don't have the players these teams have, we don't have the infrastructure or the exposure. A lot of the South African team have played in the IPL. We don't get that,” said Balbarnie. “We are thrilled and beating them once off is great but winning a series at the end of the week will be so important because it shows we're making strides," he added.

We’re lucky to have him: Marsh lauds Starc for defending 11 off the final over against Russell

Australia’s best player on the dismal West Indies tour so far, Mitchell Marsh praised fast bowler Mitchell Starc for his outstanding last over which resulted in the first victory for the kangaroos, who were down 0-3 in the five-match T20I series. "We always talk about his [Starc] record and that speaks for itself," Marsh was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au It was a tense situation when West Indies needed 36 off two overs and two big hitters Andre Russell and Fabian Allen were at the crease. Fast bowler Riley Meredith was given the responsibility to curtail the runs and leave as much as possible for Mitchell Starc to defend in the final over. However, Allen had other ideas as he smoked three sixes and added with one from Russell and a single, the over yielded 25 runs, but not without the wicket of Allen, which came at the last ball. Now, Starc was up against Russell with 11 defend off the last over. It meant that the West Indian power-hitter needed only three bad deliveries at maximum and two at minimum to take his team home. But credit to the left-arm pacer, who bowling around the wicket, didn’t give Russell any space to free his arms. To the home crowd’s dismay, Muscle Russell wasn’t able to get even a single run until the last ball which he hit for six but lost the match by five runs. “...but he's the best in the world. That last over tonight, a lot of our young bowlers will look at that and aspire to be like that and I think that's great. He's a great leader, he's a great white-ball bowler, we're very lucky to have him and it was awesome to watch that last over," Marsh, who was adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant 72 with the bat and career-best T20I bowling figures of 3/26. "Those moments there, that's the ultimate. Playing cricket for your country, Mitch Starc versus Andre Russell, two of the best in the world at what they do. That's why you play," Marsh added. With this win, Australia salvaged some pride having lost the series by losing the first three games. With the last game scheduled for Saturday, July 17th at the Daren Sammy Stadium in St. Lucia, both Marsh and Starc would do their best and eke out another victory.
