BCCI ethics officer finds TNCA president Rupa Gurunath guilty of conflict of interest

The ethics officer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India DK Jain has recognised Tamil Nadu Cricket Association President Rupa Guranath as guilty of conflict of interest for holding twin posts within the ambit of the board. In addition to the TNCA president, Rupa Gurunath also holds the position of a director at India Cements—the company that owns the Indian Premier League franchise the Chennai Super Kings.

Rupa’s counsel PS Raman who represented in the matter maintained that she is in no way associated with the CSK franchise although the ethics officers ruled out any such argument and judged the CSK as part of India Cements Limited that makes her posts untenable.

Hence, as per the revamped constitution of the BCCI, she will have to give up one post.

The conflict of interest has been a hot topic of discussion among administrators as the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly too has attracted a lot of criticism on the issue of overlapping interests.

Rupa Gurunath is the wife of Gurunath Maiyappan who was banned by the BCCI for involvement in the spot-fixing scandal exposed in the year 2013 and the daughter of former BCCI President N Srinivasan.
