We are in Southampton: Team India lands in England as Rohit Sharma shares first pictures

The Indian contingent comprising of both men’s and women’s team, have reached the United Kingdom at around 4 pm on 3 June, Thursday, after taking off from Mumbai earlier in the night. Indian batsman Rohit Sharma shared a picture of him and wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant, at the Ageas Bowl, a ground in Southampton that will play host to the inaugural World Test Championship Final where India would be up against New Zealand.

The women’s team members also shared their pictures on various social media sites, in particular, Jemimah Rodrigues making a short video of her room’s balcony at the Bowl, which opens into the stands. She uploaded it as a story on her Instagram account. The women’s team after spending 10 days in quarantine at Southampton, would move to Bristol where Mitlai Raj led side will take part in one-off Tests against hosts England at the County Ground.

The men’s team on the other hand would be there in England till September 14, the last day of the last of the five Tests which they would play against the hosts after a 40-day break from their WTC final. The Women’s tour would however end in July itself.

KS Bharat heads back home after Wriddhiman Saha recovers from Covid-19

Wicketkeeper-batsman KS Bharath, who was picked in the Indian team as a backup for Covid-infected Wriddhiman Saha has not travelled to the United Kingdom with the squad as Saha has recovered from the illness and passed his fitness test, PTI reported. Saha was one of the players who contracted novel Coronavirus while being in the biosecure bubble with his IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 14th edition of the IPL. The BCCI had earlier postponed the IPL citing the Covid-19 outbreak in the bubbles of more than one side while the matches were played behind the doors. Indian team has arrived in Southampton, where they will take on New Zealand in the World Test Championship final starting June 18. India have selected a large squad of players for the WTC final and the Test series against England that will take place in August later this year. The 20-man squad looks formidable on paper to start with and the team management has bullish expectations from them on a long tour.

Marquino Mindley rejoins Windies red ball training squad after recovering from Covid-19

West Indies red ball training squad member Marquino Mindley has rejoined the squad after completing his quarantine, having tested positive a week ago. He was released within the West Indies red ball training camp following a second negative PCR test result. The bowler joined the team training at the Daren Sammy Ground in St. Lucia where it will host South Africa for a two-match Test series starting June 10. Currently, the West Indian training squad is playing a four day “Best vs Best” match between the Jahmar Hamilton XI and the Jermaine Blackwood XI. Mindley joined the game on its 3rd day. The tall Jamaican even bowled a short spell for Jermaine Blackwood’s XI on his return. This match would act as one of the criteria for picking the squad for the two Tests and thus all the player part of it are pushing hard for selection. The last day of the game will be played on June 3. The 26-year-old pacer has so far played 35 First-class games, picking up 84 wickets at an average of 25.29. He could be handy with the bat as well with an average of 11 in First-Class cricket and a best of 43.

Debutant Devon Conway continued his impressive innings on the second day of the first Test at Lord’s and reached a marvellous double hundred with a six over square leg off Mark Wood. He became only the second New Zealand batsman to score a double ton on Test debut. Conway hit 21 fours and one six to reach the milestone and powered New Zealand to a formidable score in the first innings of the Test match. He was supported well by the 11th man with the bat, Neil Wagner who played some fantastic shots to propel Blackcaps from the other end. In the end, Conway got himself run out while trying to steal a double. For England, Ollie Robinson and Mark Wood were the picks of the bowling attack while Stuart Broad went wicketless and James Anderson picked up two wickets that included possibly the biggest wicket among New Zealand batsmen in the game.

PSL 6: Abu Dhabi leg full schedule out; Lahore Qalandars to face Islamabad United in the opener

The Pakistan Cricket Board, after finalising the dates of the Abu Dhabi leg of the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League, rolled out the schedule for the reaming 20 matches. In the opening encounter on June 9, last year’s finalists Lahore Qalandars will take on two-time champions Islamabad United in a 9.30 pm IST (9 pm PST) affair at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. There are five doubleheaders in the league stage while the Playoffs would see the Qualifier and first Eliminator being played on the same day, June 21. The second eliminator will be played on the very next day on June 22 while the final would take place on June 24. While the rest of the teams play two 9 pm games each, Multan Sultans and Peshwar Zalmi would play only each at the league stage. Having got the clearance and crossed all hurdles, the PCB was finally able to announce the dates on June 3, having pushed the start from June 5 to June 7 and now finally to June 9. Originally the postponed league was to be played in Karachi from June 1 onwards, but was shifted on the insistence of the franchise owners.
