In a significant move aimed at revitalising domestic cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has established a four-member committee.

The committee, comprising Indian men's team head coach Rahul Dravid, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, National Cricket Academy (NCA) chairman VVS Laxman, and BCCI General Manager Abey Kuruvilla, is tasked with addressing the pressing issues facing domestic cricket, as per reports from Times of India and Hindustan Times.

This strategic decision emerged from concerns raised at BCCI's Apex Council meeting on Monday, highlighting the hurdles in conducting domestic cricket smoothly.

The committee is a response to the feedback from players and stakeholders, with India pacer Shardul Thakur recently voicing concerns over the cramped scheduling of Ranji Trophy matches leading to player injuries.

Moreover, weather conditions in northern India have played spoilsport, with matches during the crucial Ranji Trophy being washed out or heavily affected.

"Many problems arose during the conduct of men's domestic cricket, with a prominent problem being that bad weather in December and January caused a lot of games in north India, particularly during the Ranji Trophy, to be washed out or heavily curtailed," the BCCI source mentioned.

The committee’s formation is also a nod to the importance of domestic cricket, emphasized by team captain Rohit Sharma and echoed by the BCCI’s directive mandating Indian Cricket Team players’ participation in state matches during off-international schedules.

This move underscores the commitment to enhancing the quality and appeal of domestic cricket, with potential adjustments to the Ranji Trophy schedule to avoid clashes with adverse weather conditions.
