BCCI 'don't know' if game will take place as uncertainties loom large over Old Trafford Test

There are uncertainties looming over the fifth and final Test of the series between England and India in the wake of a fresh case reported from the Indian camp. As per an ESPNcricinfo report, the latest support staff from the Indian camp to have contracted the Covid-19 is the assistant physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar.

The latest case and cancellation of both the pre-game net sessions of the visitors along with the cancellation of the pre-match press conference would have been addressed by either skipper Virat Kohli or the batting coach Vikram Rathour has raised doubts over the start of the Old Trafford Test at the first place.

The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has fuelled the fire of uncertainties by stating that he is unsure of whether the game will take place or not. He has been quoted as saying by PTI that there is no clear update from England about the schedule and viability of the Old Trafford Test.

"We don't know if the match will happen at the moment. Hopefully, we can get some game," PTI quoted Ganguly as saying at the book launch of 'Mission Domination' in Kolkata on September 9.

To make things more uncertain, England wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler has said that there are not too many facts known about the gravity of the situation and that it would be “naive” to speculate over the development. However, he said that the hosts in England are all in readiness to play the game and have their “fingers crossed” for the game to go ahead as planned.

"We don't know too much about it at the moment. It would be naive to speculate on what's going on. At the moment we're fully expecting the game to go ahead and we're preparing that way so fingers crossed the game will go ahead," said Jos Buttler.

India lead the five-match series 2-1 and if the Old Trafford Test doesn’t take place, the Virat Kohli-led side will return from the UK with a series win in England after a long gap of 14 years.
