Brisbane Heat etched a comfortable win by five wickets against Melbourne Renegades on Monday in Queensland after they chased down a target of 141 runs by 5 wickets in less than 17 overs.
Brisbane had a decent start to the chase after openers Max Bryant and Chris Lynn put 46 runs for the first wicket before the latter departed for 32 off 15.
Heat then lost some wickets at regular succession and were 107/5 when Sam Heazlett and James Bazley joined hands and steadied the ship for the side with an unbeaten 34-run stand for the sixth wicket. Heazlett remained unbeaten at 44 off 29 while Bazley chipped in with 16* off 12.
Zahir Khan was the pick of the bowlers for his side after he returned with figures of 2/27 in 4 overs.
Earlier, in the day, riding on Mackenzie Harvey’s 71* off 56, the Renegades managed to put 140/6 in 20 overs on the board. Bazley returned with three wickets for 28 runs in 4 overs.
Bazley who was adjudged man of the match expressed delight after winning the game.
“Pleasing to get the first win on the board. The bowlers really did the job well and we batted well enough to close things down. Yeah, that (slower balls into the wicket) was the plan, it always works here and we got into that plan rather early here. As I'm getting older, I'm able to understand my game a lot better,” he said after the match.
