Veteran Indian batter Rohit Sharma has been impressive in the IPL 2024, providing Mumbai Indians with solid starts in most of their group-stage matches. 

Considering his batting exploits, Punjab Kings owner Preity Zinta had apparently shown interest in purchasing the batting maestro in the 2025 mega auction, as per an earlier report. 

However, as per the latest confirmation by the Punjab Kings management, Zinta hadn't made any such statements in the IPL broadcasting platform. The Kings have dismissed it, calling it a baseless rumour. 

“I will bet my life to get Rohit Sharma if he comes in mega auction. We are only missing a captain in our team who brings on some stability and champion mindset," said the PBKS owner as quoted by Dainik Jagran.

By digging deeper, OneCricket understood that the news was based on a prank tweet, posted by a Rohit Sharma fan on 'X' (formerly Twitter). All in all, it was a ruckus stemmed from the tweet that went viral on social media.

Regarding Punjab Kings, the Shikhar Dhawan-led side languishes at number seven in the points table with only two wins in four outings. Interestingly, they will take on Rohit Sharma's Mumbai Indians in their next match on April 18 at home.
