On Sunday, April 20, it is time for the 2nd el-classico of the season as Mumbai Indians will lock horns against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium. Both teams are struggling this season as they are placed in the lower half of the table.
Talking about Chennai Super Kings, they are placed last on the table and have made several changes to their playing XI in the last few games. Further, injuries have also troubled the Menin Yellow, which resulted in CSK signing Devald Brevis as Gurjanpreet Singh's replacement.
Meanwhile, Brevis has joined an elite list of players to have represented both CSK and MI. This article will look at five overseas players to have played for both CSK and MI.
1. Dwayne Bravo
Dwayne Bravo is an IPL legend, and there is no argument over it. Notably, Bravo made his IPL debut with Mumbai Indians, where the West Indies star player played from 2008-2010.
Further, Bravo joined CSK in 2011 and stayed with the Men in Yellow from 2011-2015 and 2018-2022. In his glorious career with both teams, Bravo won the IPL title thrice.
2. Michael Hussey
Unlike Bravo, Hussey made his IPL debut with Chennai Super Kings and was with the club for two stints. Notably, the southpaw played for the Men in Yellow from 2008-2013 and returned for another season in 2015.
However, Hussey had shifted his base in 2014 and moved to Mumbai Indians that season before returning to CSK in 2015.
3. Tim Southee
Tim Southee is another player who has played for both CSK and MI. The former New Zealand seamer made his IPL debut in 2011 with CSK. He featured for the Men in Yellow for just a single season and then shifted his base to Mumbai Indians in 2016 where he stayed for two seasons.
Notably, Southee has two IPL trophies to his name as he has won a title each with CSK and Mumbai Indians.
4. Dwayne Smith
Former West Indies star batter Dwayne Smith rose to fame when he opened for CSK in IPL and was among the runs. It is worth noting that the right-hand batter is another big player to represent both franchises.
Before CSK, Smith was roped in by Mumbai Indians and played for the five-time winners in two stints. He made his IPL debut with MI in 2008 and returned to the franchise in 2012 for two seasons. Smith shifted to CSK in 2014, where he featured for two seasons.
5. Dewald Brevis
Brevis, who is dubbed as Baby AB, rose to fame after heroics for South Africa U-19 team. It led to his selection in IPL where MI bought him in 2022. He stayed at the club till 2024.
In the latest events, Brevis has been signed by CSK as a replacement and it is to be seen whether he will make his CSK debut against his former club or not.
