Refuting strong rumours about his sacking from the captaincy of the Pakistan Test team, Azhar Ali has said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has held no such discussion with him. The rumours about his departure came with few media reports claiming that the likes of Babar Azam and Rizwan Khan could be the contender for the top job in the Pakistan Test team. The rumours were strengthened when the PCB CEO Wasim Khan had refused to confirm Azahr Ali’s status as the captain of the side for the upcoming tour to New Zealand.
"The PCB has not spoken to me about this and I also know about these rumours through the media so I am not in a position to say anything on this. "What can I say when no one has spoken to me on this subject, for now, I just think these are only rumours and nothing else. It makes no sense to think about these things because I am focussing on first-class matches and international cricket. Look when anyone talks to me about this officially then I will be in a position to say something," Azhar Ali said while attending a virtual press meeting.
Azhar was appointed the captain of the side in the red-ball format in October last year but abysmal performances on the two overseas tours of England and Australia have put him in a spot of bother. However, Azhar said that the tag of the captain of the side does not burden him and that a similar round of speculations had emerged after a debacle series in Australia as well.
