The high-flying Zimbabwe were recently humbled 3-0 by India at home. Despite a seemingly one-sided scoreline, the hosts gave the ‘Men in Blue’ a scare to remember in the third game by reaching within touching distance of the visitor’s total.

The Regis Chakabva’s draw-cards are set to play another set of three ODIs, this time against Australia in Townville.

Alex Carey wary of Zimbabwean challenge ahead of bumper home season

Prior to their defeat to India at home, Zimbabwe pipped a strong Bangladeshi unit in ODIs and T20Is with identical 2-1 margins. They also won the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup Global Qualifier B in July, trashing Netherlands in a one-sided final.

Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey, who is part of their 14-player expanded squad, recently gave his take on the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe. The 30-year-old said that the Australians will not be taking the series lightly and they are already doing their research on the visiting Zimbabwe party.

While speaking on cricket.com.au, he said:

“In this format, I haven't played them. They've had some recent form so they'll be keen to come over here and play some good cricket. They knocked off Bangladesh recently, so we will do our research if the guys haven't already started. We've got some vision of (their) bowlers, batters and we are up here five days early.”

Notably, the upcoming series marks Zimbabwe’s first bilateral trip to Australia since February 2004.
