AUS vs PAK | Why Did Pakistan Not Get A 5 Run Penalty After Ball Hit Saim Ayub’s Cap?

The reason Pakistan did not receive a five-run penalty after the ball hit Saim Ayub's cap during the third Test against Australia was that the contact between the ball and Ayub's cap occurred accidentally. According to cricket rules, teams are penalized five runs if the ball makes contact with a cap or helmet intentionally placed in the outfield. In Ayub's case, the cap wasn't deliberately positioned in the outfield before the slide, so no penalty runs were awarded to Australia.

Despite the fortunate outcome regarding the penalty, Ayub faced an injury scare during the incident. His left knee jammed on the ground, causing a chunk of mud to come off the outfield. Fortunately, Ayub managed to avoid a significant injury and continued playing after getting up.

Ayub, who made his Test debut in this match, had a mixed performance, facing challenges with both bat and fielding. He will be eager to make amends with the bat in Pakistan's second innings. The southpaw was brought in as a replacement for Imam-ul-Haq for the Sydney Test and will be looking to contribute positively to the team's performance.
