  • At No Stage Did I Think I Was Going To Go For Laras Record Discloses Sam Northeast After His Marathon Knock

‘At no stage did I think I was going to go for Lara's record’, discloses Sam Northeast after his marathon knock

Glamorgan's Sam Northeast smashed into many record books as he hammered his way through to an insane 450-ball 410* in the recently concluded County Championship encounter against Leicestershire

Northeast's phenomenal knock not only featured him among the legendary first-class batters but also helped Glamorgan decimate their opponents by an innings and 28 runs in the match.

In the aftermath of his side's thumping victory, Northeast disclosed that Glamorgan's entire crew, including the coach Matt Maynard, had given him a free hand to continue batting and surpass Brian Lara's all-time highest first-class score of 501.

Matt Maynard, our coach, came and said, 'If you want to go for it, then do it. We have got a game to win here, but I understand you are never going to get an opportunity to break the record. A lot of my mates were saying, 'stuff the team, go and get Lara's record',” Northeast said.

However, as the stylish right-hander put it, he prioritized Glamorgan's victory ahead of his personal milestone and conveyed the same to his team.

“We sort of agreed as a team that wasn't going to be the case. At no stage did I think we weren't going to declare, and I was going to go for the record,” he added.

Northeast, who reached 400 by smashing a huge six down the ground, revealed that he had never imagined getting to that score in a first-class game. He also stressed that Glamorgan's victory made this game even more memorable for him.

"It was beyond my wildest imagination. It was a special day and to top it off with a win makes it a game I will remember forever, for sure," the 32-year-old concluded.
