Former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli's form has been a hotly-debated topic over the years. The batting maestro has failed to rekindle his past form and has struggled to register an international ton since 2019.
Kohli, who will make a return to the field for India in the soon-to-start Asia Cup 2022, will face arch-rivals Pakistan in the first match of the competition on August 28 at the Dubai International Stadium. The 33-year-old opted to make himself unavailable for West Indies and Zimbabwe tours, sparking an uproar on social media.
Kohli has played just 4 T20Is in 2022, while India have featured in 21 encounters.
Former coach Ravi Shastri maintains that Kohli is just one inning away from regaining his touch and that a fifty in the first match will shut down his detractors for good.
"The downtime for Kohli was good before the Asia Cup gave him a good chance to reflect. If he manages to get a fifty in the match against Pakistan, mouths will be shut. One innings can make a difference. He needs one innings to get back because the hunger is undiminished. What's happened in the past is history. Remember public memory is very short," - Shastri told Star Sports
