Ashes 2023 | Marnus Labuschagne Cops a Painful Blow On His Finger Ahead Of Lord's Test

Australia's number three batter Marnus Labuschagne sent an injury scare through the tourists' camp ahead of the 2nd Ashes Test at Lord's after he copped a painful blow on his finger during a net session.

Labuschagne and Steven Smith were a part of the Aussie contingent that returned to training after a short break following a thrilling win in Birmingham last week.

According to reports published by the Australian media, the former No.1 ranked batsman was seen howling in discomfort and kneeling on the floor before the medical staff rushed in for treatment.

However, Australian assistant coach Michael de Venuto brushed off the scare, stating that Labuschagne, despite the pain, kept on batting, and it was not really a blow that would force him out of the Test match.

"He kept on batting so he must‘ve been OK. Otherwise he would have walked out. He‘s got a finger that has copped a couple of knocks. I think he just got another one. He said it felt better because the blood started to flow through or something. So it makes sense if that’s what you want," said Venuto as quoted by Fox Cricket.

Labuschagne has endured a torrid time in the UK so far. He failed to make an impact during the World Test Championship final against India before registering consecutive failures in the Ashes opener in Birmingham last week.

As a result, the Queenslander lost his No.1 ranking to England's Joe Root, who smashed a magnificent ton in the last game. Marnus will be desperate to get back into his beast mode at Lord's, a venue that changed the fortunes of his career four years ago.

The 2nd Test begins at Lord's on June 28.
