  • As A Captain I Have To Think Of All 21 Players I Have Got Here And Not Just About Me Prithvi Shaw

As a captain, I have to think of all 21 players I have got here and not just about me: Prithvi Shaw

In the ongoing edition of the Ranji Trophy, Prithvi Shaw has made just a mere three half-centuries. But, his commendable captaincy has led Mumbai to their 47th Ranji Trophy final, as they would be up against a formidable Madhya Pradesh side.

For the time being, Shaw doesn't want his focus on the National side and finding his name in the squad of the upcoming series. Instead, he aims to earn the Ranji Trophy title for his team, Mumbai.

"I have scored a couple (three) of the fifties. But that's not enough for me for sure, and no one even congratulated me after scoring a fifty, and you feel bad as well (jokingly). It happens sometimes but I am glad that my team is doing well. As a captain, I have to think of all 21 players I have got here and not just about me," said Shaw.

"In cricket and life, the graph always goes up and down and it's never going to always go up. So it's just a matter of time that I middle those balls and get those big runs again. But right now, I want to ensure that my team is doing fine and is enjoying its game," added the Mumbai skipper.

When asked about his comeback to the National squad, he had made his priorities clear and said, "It's nowhere near my mind, you know – come back to the Indian team. Getting the Cup is my main motive and not thinking of anything other than winning this one.

The preparation of what we have done for the Ranji Trophy and not focusing on what's happening on the outside. It's about winning the Ranji Trophy and getting those happy moments back."

Also, with the Mumbai skipper having a robust experience in the sport, he had a message for the budding and young players.

"First thing I would say is that I am proud of them and how far they have come and want to say, go there and enjoy. I tell the youngsters on the side that it's the same kind of thing that you have done at U-25 or U-19s, just the degree of difficulty becomes more.

For me, the result doesn't matter but the effort they put in does. I just tell them, do what you have been doing all these years," said Prithvi Shaw intending to motivate the youngster.

Fun fact, including the wholesome captaincy of Prithvi Shaw, the two pillars behind Mumbai's impeccable Ranji run, Arman Jaffer and the season's top-scoring batter, Sarfaraz Khan, all the three have come from the same schooling background, Rizvi Springfields.

The school has been predominantly known for dominating in the Mumbai school tournaments like Harris and Giles shield. With Arman and Sarfaraz playing their first summit clash like the Ranji trophy, it would be Prithvi's second appearance in a Ranji Trophy final (one during the 2017 edition).
