Anya Shrubsole signs up with Southern Vipers as player-coach for the 2022 summer

Former England seamer Anya Shrubsole has signed up with the Southern Vipers as player-coach for the upcoming domestic season.

The former World Cup-winning cricketer will be available for the Vipers in the upcoming Charlotte Edwards Cup and Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

Speaking to the Vipers' website, the 30-year-old expressed her excitement at joining the Southern Vipers.

The former English international is looking forward to working and learning from head coach Charlotte Edwards and working with upcoming young seamers.

"I am really looking forward to playing for Southern Vipers and have the opportunity to work with and learn from [head coach] Charlotte Edwards,"

Shrubsole added that she is incredibly grateful for getting a chance to work with a 'young, exciting seamer' as she makes a transition into life post cricket. She is looking forward to learning new things and can't wait for the journey to get started.

"Fast bowling is something I am passionate about so I am incredibly grateful to be given the responsibility to work with some young, exciting seamers as I transition into life after international cricket. I have a lot to learn which excites me immensely and I can't wait to get started,"

Meanwhile, Adam Carty, the director of Southern Vipers' women's cricket, has expressed his delight at acquiring the services of Shrubsole for the forthcoming season and beyond.

"I am delighted that we have been able to secure the signing of Anya for the coming season and beyond," she said.

Shrubsole represented England in 173 games, claiming 227 wickets, including a match-winning spell of 6-46 in the 2017 World Cup final against India.

She claimed nine wickets in the recent World Cup in New Zealand and called it quits from the game following England's defeat to Australia in the final.
