Angkrish Raghuvanshi has tendered an apology to Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal for making a Jasprit Bumrah-centric joke on social media.

During a recent podcast, Saina Nehwal spoke about the excessive media attention for cricket in the country, and implied that other sports like badminton, basketball, tennis demands more skill and stamina. Raghuvanshi responded to Nehwal’s comments by “jokingly” asking her to face Jasprit Bumrah’s 150kps thunderbolt bouncers.

On July 11, a podcast featuring Saina Nehwal went viral across social media where the 34-year-old can be seen emphasizing about excessive media attention for cricket and the skillful nature of other sports like badminton, basketball, tennis etc.

India’s Under-19 star and KKR’s IPL 2024 alumnus Angkrish Raghuvanshi responded to Nehwal’s comments by indirectly implying that cricket requires just as much as skills, and made a “joke” centered around express fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

After receiving severe backlash from fans on social media, Angkrish Raghuvanshi once again took to X (formerly Twitter) and tendered his apology towards the Indian badminton sensation. The 19-year-old claimed that his attempted response turned out to be an “immature joke” and he has realized his mistake.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi recently represented the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise in the IPL 2024 season. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, KKR went on to lift the coveted title, and their triumphant run also included a couple of match-winning knocks from the youngster.

Back in early 2022, Raghuvanshi also played a key role in India’s win at the 2022 Under-19 World Cup in the West Indies.
