Andrew McDonald still unsure about the Aussie top job

As the Pakistan tour comes to an end, Andrew McDonald remains uncertain about revealing his desires for Australia's coaching position. However, Australia will finish their first tour to Pakistan in 24 years with a sole T20I against the hosts in Lahore.

Former Australia all-rounder Andrew McDonald has been an interim coach for the Australian squad since the departure of Justin Langer from the post in February. Although, he has revealed his discussions with Cricket Australia management after the 1-0 Test series win over Pakistan. McDonald said that "obviously, the congested Test series didn't allow that but with a few more gaps in this one-day series, I've had the opportunity to speak with Cricket Australia".

"Whether that becomes a follow-up conversation, we'll wait and see. "It will be pretty much like the other people who have no doubt spoken to Cricket Australia."

Adding further, "Within the chats, there was no great detail or clarity on what the role would look like." However, when asked about a full-time role, he replied that he is still unsure about his ambitions or desires.

"It depends on what it looks like, how Cricket Australia see the job unfolding and looking like, and we'll get more detail on that going forward," he said. "I don't want to openly share what I think it should look like because that might put people in difficult situations throughout the process."

Meanwhile, newly former Australian Test skipper Pat Cummins has praised the former all-rounder's influence on the team and declared McDonald was a vital part of just Australia's third Test series win in Pakistan.

Last month Cummins reckoned that "It's not just the players that walk out, we have got a squad of 30-odd people working so hard,". "He (McDonald) has been an important part. "It's not my place to appoint the coach, but he has been fantastic".

Meanwhile, McDonald revealed that Josh Inglis and Ashton Agar could be available for the T20 after recovering from COVID-19.
