Andre Russell's batting masterclass followed by a stellar bowling performance helped Manchester Originals dazzle Southern Brave by 68 runs in the 18th match of The Hundred 2022.

Chasing 189, openers Quinton de Kock (20-ball 21) and James Vince (9-ball 20) got their team to a decent start, putting up a 37-run stand but once they were dismissed, it was all downhill for the defending champions.

Apart from the forenamed duo, only George Garton (14-ball 25) and Ross Whiteley (12-ball 21) could manage to breach the 20-run mark as Southern Brave eventually bundled out for 120 in 84 deliveries.

For Manchester Originals, Paul Walter (3/20), Matt Parkinson (2/22) and Tristan Stubbs (2/12) were the wreckers-in-chief with the ball as they cleaned up the Southern Brave's batting order without a fuss.

Buttler-Russell Masterclass Steers Manchester To Daunting Total

Earlier, after putting to bat first, skipper Jos Buttler, along with his opening partner Philip Salt, gave the team a flying start, notching up 64 runs in 41 deliveries before the latter departed after a quick-fire 38 off just 22 balls.

The hard-hitting Caribbean batter Andre Russell then joined forces with Jos Buttler and belted the Southern Brave bowlers all around the park while bringing up his first half-century of the season in the process.

Russell hammered 6 fours and 5 towering sixes and remained unbeaten for 64 off 23 deliveries. Buttler also played an impetus knock of 42-ball 68 to help his side post a daunting total of 188/3 in 100 deliveries.

In the end, the target proved more than enough for the defending champions as they bundled for 120, losing the match by 68 runs. Southern Brave managed to pick just three wickets, with Jacob Lintott (1/28) being the pick of the bowlers.
