Amit Mishra fires shots at Shahid Afridi after latter supports Yasin Malik

India spinner Amit Mishra has waged a Twitter war with ex-Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi after the latter tweeted in support of Yasin Malik, a separatist leader.

Malik was charged under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in May, 2022. The last court hearing on the matter saw him pleading guilty to all the charges, after which the National Investigation Agency (NIA) sought a death sentence.

The Delhi Court ordered the punishment of life imprisonment for Malik on Monday (May 25).

As Afridi has been after his retirement, he again dived into India's internal matters and shared his picture with Pakistan's flag in the background. The tweet read as:

"India's continued attempts to silence critical voices against its blatant human right abuses are futile. Fabricated charges against #YasinMalik will not put a hold to #Kashmir's struggle to freedom. Urging the #UN to take notice of unfair & illegal trails against Kashmir leaders."

Mishra was quick to respond to Afridi and took a dig at his former opponent. The leg-spinner wrote that everything is not misleading as Afridi's birthdate.

"Dear @safridiofficial he himself has pleaded guilty in court on record. Not everything is misleading like your birthdate," Mishra tweeted.

Since retiring from the sport, Afridi has been known for his ludicrous opinions on the Kashmir issue. And unfortunately, this is not the first instance of his folly.

"It does not take a religious belief to feel the agony of Kashmiris...just a right heart at the right place. Save Kashmir," Afridi had said in 2020.
