Ajaz Patel to auction off his 10-wicket-haul jersey for children's hospital

New Zealand left-arm orthodox Ajaz Patel has decided to auction his history-making ten-wicket-haul jersey to Starship Foundation- a children's hospital.

Patel scripted history late last year when he became just the 3rd bowler in the history of Test cricket to claim all ten wickets in an innings. The left-arm spinner achieved his feat against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

He was rightfully given a standing ovation by his peers, opposition players, including Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin, and the fans in the stadium.

Patel has now decided to auction his prized jersey for a noble cause. The proceeds collected from the auction will help Starship Foundation find a Play Specialist in the Radiology department.

Patel took to his Instagram account to share his plans with his fans.

He wrote, "You may or may not have already seen it but, @starshipfoundation is auctioning a signed shirt of mine from the 10-wicket Test in Mumbai to raise money for a play therapist, while it was a special day for me, what they do to help kids and their families is even more significant and I hope the auction on @trademe can raise as many funds as possible for them.”

When asked why he chose Starship Foundation, Patel said that the Foundation had been of immense help when his young daughter was at the hospital last year.

"My wife and I spent a couple of days in Starship with our daughter last year. It was a worrying time, but I realised how lucky we were to only need a short stay. Starship was amazing to us, and we wanted to give back this is one way we can do that,” Ajaz added.

Patel claimed a total of 14 wickets in the Mumbai Test and it proved to be the only saving grace for the visitors as they went down by 372 runs against a ruthless Indian attack.
