After an array of single contests, a doubleheader awaits us in the 2023 World Cup. The initial game will see Netherlands square off against Sri Lanka at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. Game no. 19 of the coveted tourney will commence at 10:30 AM on October 21.

Sri Lanka started the competition in a poor fashion. They are the only side yet to go off the mark in the World Cup this far. They have played three matches and lost all of them. It started off with. South Africa where they were on the wrong side of the highest total in World Cup record. It was followed by a narrow defeat against Pakistan and then Australia trounced the Lankan Lions. They were without Matheesha Pathirana in the last game and Dasun Shanaka was ruled out of the competition.

On the flip side, Netherlands initiated the tournament with a couple of losses against Pakistan and New Zealand. Their latest victory came against South Africa and yet again the Proteas were shell shocked by the Dutch after the T20 World Cup 2022. Currently, they have two points in the bag from three matches and are positioned at the eighth position.

Let us have a quick look at how the Dutch may form their line-up against Sri Lanka.

Openers: Vikramjit Singh and Max O'Dowd

Netherlands management have no specific reasons to replace their opening pair of Vikramjit Singh and Max O'Dowd. The former touched up with an elegant fifty against Pakistan in their first match while the latter is full of potential. O'Dowd has an array of shots in his book but is yet to deliver as per the expectations.

Middle-Order: Scott Edwards, Teja Nidamanuru and Sybrand Engelbrecht.

The skipper, Scott Edwards was one of the central reasons behind the victory against South Africa a few days back. Netherlands scripted history against the Proteas and it was the captain whose 78 off 69 deliveries paved the path for the fighting total. He is one of the best players of spin in the Dutch XI and shall be an integral part of the middle-order.

Edwards shall be accompanied by Sybrand Engelbrecht and Teja Nidamanuru at various stages of the batting order. The former was a part of South Africa U-19 set-up a decade back. He shifted to Europe leaving cricket behind but was spotted by Ryan Cook and soon was brought in the Dutch domestic circuit. Engelbrecht is an excellent fielder but is yet to transpire his domestic form into international stage. Meanwhile, Nidamanuru is a very fine wristy batter with sound technique. He is another guy who is dew of a big knock.

All-rounders: Bas de Leede, Colin Ackermann, Roelof van der Merwe, Logan van Beek

Netherlands' one of the strength is their rich variety of all-rounders. Bas de Leede and Logan van Beek are some exquisite seam bowling all-rounders who are equally good with the bat as with the cork in hand.

They also have Colin Ackermann who had a terrific outing in the County set-up in the past few months. He can also be a handy operator with his finger spin. And when it comes to greatness, none can match the Dutch bull dog- Roelof van der Merwe. He was terrific with some cameos with the bat lower down the batting order and also bagged two scalps.

Bowlers: Paul van Meekeren and Aryan Dutt

Paul van Meekeren would remember knocking off the stumps of Aiden Markram for a long time in his career. The tall pacer has the ability to deliver with both the hard and soft ball. Aryan Dutt will be yet another spinner in the frame for Netherlands. The left-arm orthodox spinner can also contribute with the bat lower down the order like he did in the last game against South Africa.
