With the Women's T20 World Cup right around the corner, the defending champions and one of the most successful teams in ICC campaigns is going strong. Australia has been widely triumphant in its ICC ventures to date.

With a captain like Meg Lanning leading the squad, the Aussie women are walking on an inevitable path to accomplishment.

History

A total of 7 editions of the marquee event has been held, and out of the seven one team has clinched the trophy on 5 occasions. The team? Australia.

Australia has won the title in the years 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018 and 2020. Out of which, the most successful captain in women's cricket - Meg Lanning has lead the team in 2014, 2018 and 2020.

Strengths

If the squad list is witness to something, it is that the Australian squad is filled with mighty, big hitting all-rounders. It is a trait of the Australian squad to have a corps of all-rounders who can do lethal damage to the opposition. Ashleigh Gardner and Tahlia McGrath being the front runners when it comes to explosive batting.

When it comes to batters, the team only has 3 pure batters. But all quality batters, the best of the cream. The road to an ICC trophy win seems easy when you have names like Mooney and Lanning featuring in the top order followed by all-rounders who don't think twice before hitting the ball out of the park.

Weaknesses

Although it seems like Australia's flaws work the graveyard shift, there could be a few shortcomings to the squad.

  • Fast bowling deficiency: the seemingly all-rounder heavy squad has been witnessing a low in the fast bowling department. The fast-bowlers haven't been performing upto par.
  • Burdensome all-rounders: When you have a team filled with all-rounders, it might just happen that players might be burdened. Having too much on their plate could a possible problem for the Australian all-rounders.

Opportunities

With new talent in the squad, the World Cup is a perfect opportunity for the younglings of the squad to showcase their talents and cement their places in the squad.

Threats

Australia being the defending champions and the most successful campaigners could become overconfident. Which in turn could lead to them being lenient in their preparations. They could easily underestimate a team and lose their streak.

Prediction

It would be a big upset if the team does not end up defending its title. Australia has lot on the line, especially Meg Lanning. Women's cricket fans all over the world are rooting for Meg Lanning to surpass Ricky Ponting to become the most successful captain in the world, which requires Australia to lift the cup.
