WI vs IND, 2nd Test | India's First Day Reign - Dominating West Indies in Style

India dominated the first day of the second test match, India scored 288 runs, losing 4 wickets. Virat Kohli batting on the crease with 87* and Ravindra Jadeja on 36* anchored the ship with a 106* runs partnership after India lost 4 wickets in the second session on Thursday.

Earlier, West Indies won the toss and elected to field first. India started strongly yet again in the second test, Both, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored half-centuries and constructed a 139 runs opening stand. India ruled the first session without losing any wicket.

In the second session, West Indies bowlers did a great job for them and got them back in the game. They just conceded 61 runs in the session and grabbed 4 big wickets of India. Four of the bowlers picked up a wicket apiece and paused the run flow.

After the tea, in the final session, it was controlled by Indian batters, Virat Kohli playing his 500th International match, looked in a superb touch as he scored 87* runs and played some of the best cover-drives, Ravindra Jadeja supported him amazingly and they built a fantastic partnership and assisted India to finish the day well, without any further wickets.

Virat Kohli showed his class yet again, when India were in trouble and lost 4 wickets in quick succession, he held the innings pretty well and took India out from a tricky situation. He started bit slowly and took 20 balls to get off the mark

During his inning, we saw the old midas touch of Virat Kohli. He played shots all around the ground. Majority of his runs came on the off side, cover drive (28 runs) and he also never looked uncomfortable against short-pitch balls, and scored 11 runs through pull shot and same amount of runs through hook shot.

He scored 16 runs with the help of Leg glance, and he looked in full control during his stay on the first day. He is just 13 runs shy of his first hundred in an overseas test since December 2018.

Virat Kohli will look to continue the partnership with Ravindra Jadeja on the second day to help India post a huge total on the board. On the other hand, Jadeja also resembling him well, and understands the situation of the match.

Conclusion

First day of the second test was owned by the India team without any doubts, India won the first session and the last session, whereas West Indies bowled well in the second session but failed to carry on the momentum in the final session.

India will be hoping to proceed the second day from where they left, Virat Kohli will try to make his 500th test match memorable by scoring a century or even more. Ishan Kishan is yet to bat, he will also look to score some runs and to cement his place in the regular playing 11.

However, for West Indies, the first session will be very crucial, if they manage to restrict India under 400 runs, then they can create some opportunity to make a comeback in this test match. Although, a lot will be determined by their batters, how well they play against Indian spinners.
