In what came as a big shock to the Indian cricket fans, the star of the Indian bowling, Jasprit Bumrah, was ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025 due to a back injury. With the mega event knocking on the doors, the absence of the biggest weapon in the bowling arsenal will be a huge setback for the Indian team.

The question that arises here is how the failure of workload management led to the injury of the bowler and how it affected the chances of the Indian team winning the title.

When And How Did Jasprit Bumrah Suffer The Injury?

During the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, India seemed particularly dependent on Jasprit Bumrah. The ace Indian pacer delivered more than he could during the tournament.

In the first three Tests, it was seen that the right-arm pacer looked like the most potent of the Indian bowlers. Here is a look at the bowling stats of the Indian bowlers in the first three Test of the series -

The strike rate and the average of the bowlers show that Jasprit Bumrah was impeccable in the first three matches of the series, which led the Indian team to depend even more on him. If we look deep into the numbers, we will see that about 26% of the overs in the first three games were bowled by the 31-year-old pacer, who picked up 44% of the team's wickets.

As a result of Bumrah's efficiency, Rohit Sharma overused him in the fourth Test. Whenever the other bowler's proved inefficient and ineffective, Sharma turned to Bumrah. Thus, Bumrah ended up bowling 53 overs of the 206 overs that India bowled in the game. The stress of the four matches got to him so much that we saw the bowler responding to the captain's call with 'Aur nahi, ab bas' at one stage.

With Bumrah's action, where the back takes so much pressure, the inevitable happens. During the Sydney Test, the bowler was seen leaving the field due to injury, going for scans, and could not take the field in the second innings.

So, the failure of the Indian bowling unit as a whole and the over-reliance on Bumrah led to the back stress from which the bowler is currently suffering.

How Bumrah's Absence Affects India's Chances?

India are the winners of the T20 World Cup 2024. One of the key factors behind the win was Jasprit Bumrah's brilliant show. During the tournament, Bumrah bowled 29.4 overs in eight matches and picked up 15 wickets. He did all this while maintaining an unimaginable economy of just 4.17 in the T20 format.

Besides the numbers, Bumrah bowled some crucial overs for the team. The Pakistan match turned on its head in favour of India when Bumrah arrived at the bowling crease. Even in the final, the pressure he created in the 16th over of the second innings took India to win.

These instances show how crucial a part of Bumrah is in Indian bowling. In his absence, Rohit Sharma will miss his go-to bowler and a real match-winner with the ball.

If we talk about numbers, leave a detailed analysis; without Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian bowling would be 50% less potent and impactful than it could have been.
