Who Are The Costliest Buys for Royal Challengers Bangalore?

The world's best T20 league is all set to get rolling from coming Friday with Hardik Pandya's Gujarat Titans (GT) taking on MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Ahmedabad.  When the topic of the Indian Premier League (IPL) arises one cannot go off the air without speaking of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who have one of the best fan following in the business. Though they haven't won a single trophy, the Bangalore-based franchise has been in the finals thrice.

Over the seasons, RCB have invested in many players with some of them running well while others have had their fingers burned. Let's have a look at the top five expensive buys from the RCB management.



5. Dinesh Karthik (INR 10.5 Cr)

After being released by the Delhi Daredevils, famously known as DK was bought by RCB for the 2015 edition for INR 10.50 Cr. But the keeper-batter couldn't justify the price tag, performing poorly with the bat, scoring just 141 runs in the whole season. He was released by the team management for the subsequent season and played for many franchises on either side of this money heist.

Recently, Karthik was brought again by RCB for the 15th edition and has been retained for the following edition too. Overall, the finisher has amassed 471 runs in 27 innings at an eye-catching strike rate of 158.59 playing for the Red Army. 

4. Tymal Mills (INR 12 Cr)

The injury-prone fast bowler, who can click 145 kmph+ regularly and also has a very deceptive slower delivery, Tymal Mills was sold to RCB at a high toll of INR 12 Cr before the 2017 season.

The English seamer wasn't worth the hype as he managed to scalp just 5 wickets in as many fixtures going at 8.58 runs per over. This became his overall stats for then the Virat Kohli-led unit as he was released immediately after the costly turnover.



3. Yuvraj Singh (INR 14 Cr)

A proven match-winner with his all-round prowess, Yuvraj Singh was always the talk of the town and need of the hour for franchises in this cash-rich league before the 2014 edition. 

After being disposed of IPL, Pune Warriors' players were released into the auction table before this edition where RCB fought hard and opted for the services of the World Cup-winning hero for a whopping fee of INR 14 Cr.

Yuvraj had a just-par season with the 'Red Devils', garnering 376 runs in 14 innings at an average of 34.18 and a strike rate of 135.25. He picked up 5 wickets with 4/35 being his best figure. However, the franchise emancipated the player to re-buy in the next auction for a cheaper price which didn't go well as the Delhi-based camp snapped him for INR 16 Cr.

2. Glenn Maxwell (INR 14.25 Cr)

The Royal Challengers were looking for a gun all-rounder just before the 14th edition of the marquee event and they roped in Glenn Maxwell for a mammoth sum of INR 14.25 Cr after going neck-to-neck with the Chennai Super Kings. The buy was one of the best for both the team and Maxwell as the player found his rhythm with his role perfectly defined.

The Aussie all-rounder orchestrated 814 runs in 28 matches going at an outstanding strike rate of 152.43 besides maintaining a healthy average of 35.39. He also came in handy with his off-breaks and has 9 wickets to his name in the two seasons he featured. Maxwell will be continuing with the side for the upcoming version of the mega event.  

1. Kyle Jamieson (INR 15 Cr)

Known for his height and hitting the deck hard, Kyle Jamieson was in the limelight after getting a dream start to his Test career. The tall Kiwi pacer was brought for INR 15 Cr by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the same auction where they bagged precious Glenn Maxwell.

Jamieson couldn't perform to his potential and was dropped from the side as the tournament progressed. He took 9 wickets in as many appearances going at 9.61 runs per over. The New Zealand international was plunged from the squad in the subsequent edition and has fallen prey to injuries after that.
