Ibrahim Zadran came out to open the innings for Afghanistan along with Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Batting was not easy, and Zadran's team kept losing wickets to start. They were soon three down for 57 runs in 14.1 overs.

Ibrahim kept his composure, and Najibullah Zadran joined him. The duo stitched a partnership of 154 runs before Najibullah was dismissed for 77 of 76. But this did not deter Ibrahim, as he batted till the last over, ensuring a massive total of 313 runs for his team.

He was dismissed on the last ball of the innings after hammering 162 runs off 138 balls. Although the Afghan bowlers failed to defend their score, Ibrahim's effort remains one of the bests in the ODIs this year.

The Indian bowlers put the hosts under pressure early in the chase and got them reeling at three for 88 in the 20th over. At this stage, Tom Latham joined skipper Kane Williamson in the middle. The southpaw displayed brilliant batting skills to score 145 unbeaten runs off just 104 balls and took his team to a seven-wicket victory. Latham and Williamson (94) stitched an unbeaten 221 runs partnership off just 165 balls and helped New Zealand secure a 1-0 lead in the series.
