After and early exit in the T20 World Cup 2021, India have given a series of great performances in their redemption journey this year. In the Super 12 stage the 'Men in Blue' have topped the Group 2 with 4 wins from their 5 matches.

India began their journey with a thrilling win against their arch-rivals, Pakistan. This was followed by a clinical performance against the Netherlands. However, after this they hit a bump as the batting order could not cope up with the South African pacers on the bouncy wicket to Perth.

Rohit Sharma's men soon recovered as they came back strong in the next match against Bangladesh. The 'Men in Blue' finished their Super 12 on a high not with a convincing victory against Zimbabwe. Hence, barring the match against the Proteas, the team has looked sorted.

So, what can we expect from one of the strongest contenders of this edition of the tournament in the semi-finals?

India has looked to start slowly in order to keep wickets intact for the end. But this ploy has not entirely worked out for the team as they have lost a few wickets early. The middle overs and death overs have been the strong point of India in this tournament.

The biggest X-Factor for team India is the strong finishes that they have been able to get. They have not only scored runs at a great rate in the final overs but also lost wickets than the other teams.

The fact that Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli are the most impactful batters for the team, point out to us why India's middle phase batting and finishing has been great in this tournament. SKY has batted with a strike rate of nearly 200 in the tournament and hence so far he has a greater impact than Kohli.

The Indian bowling have been at its best in the powrplays. They have conceded less runs and also picked up wickets during the phase.

As far as the records in the tournament till now suggests, the Indians have not taken the foot off the pedal during bowling in the matches. The pressure created in the powerplays have been maintained in the middle and death overs. Also, the biggest X-Factor is that they have conceded less runs than they have scored in the death overs, which has contributed in the team's great run during the tournament.

Arshdeep Singh has stood upto the expectations and have been the best bowler of the Indian team as far as impact is concerned. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has a negative impact because of the less number of wickets in his bag, but that the fact he has bowled very economically will be a source of relief for the team management.

How to plan against India

  • The openers have struggled till now, although Rahul has scored runs in the last couple of matches, they were not against very potent bowling attacks. The plan could be to dismiss them as early as possible.
  • If the openers are dismissed early, it will bring Kohli and Suryakumar earlier than expected. That would be the ideal time to dismiss the duo with as the ball would still be new and might do something off the track.
  • The Indian opening bowlers should not be allowed to settle down. If they are taken to the cleaners early, it might put the whole Indian bowling unit under a lot of pressure.
