The stage is heating up for the ICC Champions Trophy, and as far as India are concerned, there are plenty of questions regarding their probable squad. While there are big question marks over the availability of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, the dwindling batting forms of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have increased the headache of the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee.
On the other hand, several renowned players might not make it into India's Champions Trophy squad for several reasons. If we talk about Rajasthan Royals, the inaugural IPL champions have some deserving players who will likely be ignored for the marquee tournament.
Sanju Samson
- India's prominent wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson had a memorable journey in 2024, as he revitalised his T20I career with a string of magnificent knocks. He has been absolutely magnificent with the bat since he replaced Rohit Sharma in the top order.
- However, as far as ODIs are concerned, Samson has yet to establish his feet in the 50-over format. He has got sporadic opportunities, and won't likely be picked for the Champions Trophy, with India preferring KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant for the wicket-keeper slots.
Dhruv Jurel
- Promising batter Dhruv Jurel has had an impressive international career, establishing himself as one of the dependable players in the purest format. The keeper-batter has showcased remarkable technique and composure, stepping up as a valuable asset for India in Tests.
- However, Jurel, who bats in the lower middle order for Rajasthan Royals, hasn't played a single ODI for India. He has impressive numbers in List-A cricket, though, averaging 47.25 in seven innings. But he has yet to enter India's ODI setup and is going to be ignored for the Champions Trophy.
Riyan Parag
- Rajasthan Royals' premier middle order batter Riyan Parag had a brief stint with the Indian cricket team before an unfortunate injury sidelined him from the South Africa tour.
- Although Parag was impressive with the ball, his batting performances were sub-par in the limited ODI opportunities. Meanwhile, when Parag was out of action due to injury, Nitish Kumar Reddy grabbed the limelight with some impactful performances across formats.
- So, considering Reddy's recent exploits, the Hyderabad-born cricketer will likely pip Parag and get a wildcard entry to India's Champions Trophy squad.
