Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is filled with a max bag of results with the side having two wins and as many losses in their account.

RCB's victory in their season-opener was followed by two consecutive defeats. However, the franchise returned to winning ways in their previous clash against Delhi Capitals.

In their fifth match of IPL 2023, RCB will face their arch-foe Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 17 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Before the action takes the centrestage, let us predict RCB's playing XI.

Openers

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis

Both the RCB openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis are running in red-hot form. While Kohli has smashed three half-centuries with just four matches into the season, du Plessis is almost not much behind the former and has himself tonked two fifties.

Middle-order

Mahipal Lomror, Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik

The Challengers are using a spin-hitter at number three in the form of Mahipal Lomror. Although the southpaw struggled versus the Capitals, he made up for that to an extent and scored an 18-ball 26.

Glenn Maxwell has looked in supreme touch. The batter has played crucial cameos for RCB and even smashed a fifty against Lucknow Super Giants.

Though Dinesh Karthik is still to contribute in the season, RCB too are to be blamed for it. The side has pushed down the batter so low in their batting line-up that it led to their own disadvantage.

All-rounders

Shahbaz Ahmed, Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel and Wayne Parnell

Shahbaz Ahmed has so far delivered no substantial performance. It is also to do with RCB not backing him enough in both the roles.

Harshal Patel was promoted in RCB's previous match but the move did not pay much dividends. Also, he is not doing well enough with the ball but will still find a place in XI.

Wanindu Hasaranga is RCB's lead spinner and can also chip in with the bat, while Wayne Parnell too is being utilised mainly as a bowler but one cannot discount his batting ability while playing down the order.

Bowlers

Vijaykumar Vyshak and Mohammed Siraj

Vijaykumar Vyshak debuted in IPL against Delhi and claimed a three-for. Mohammed Siraj as well has been doing well lately and is a potent figure in RCB's line-up.

Impact Players

Bangalore are likely to use Anuj Rawat as their Impact Player if they bat in the second innings. However, the position which is vacant suits Suyash Prabhudessai more and he can get a nod ahead of the former.

If RCB bowl second, Karn Sharma can be their Impact Player.

  • David Willey
  • Akash Deep
  • Suyash Prabhudessai
  • Karn Sharma
  • Anuj Rawat
