After three enthralling matches, we are down to the grand finale of the ODI Tri-Series featuring New Zealand and Pakistan, while South Africa have been eliminated. This high-profile showdown will take place at the newly renovated National Stadium in Karachi on Friday, February 14th, 2025, from 2:30 PM IST.
Mitchell Santner's New Zealand side have been prolific in this series, with a perfect record of two wins out of two. They first defeated the hosts Pakistan by a massive margin of 78 runs, after which they stunned South Africa in a classic thriller. Their batting has been incredible, with more than 300 runs scored in both matches, as Glenn Phillips, Kane Williamson, and Devon Conway have joined the party in those games.
While Phillips was instrumental with his 106 not out against Pakistan in the first ODI, both Williamson (133*) and Conway (97) were marvellous during the chase, helping New Zealand chase 305 against the Proteas. From the bowling, Matt Henry has been regularly picking wickets in this series.
Moving to Pakistan, they were bowled out by the Kiwis for 252 in the first game but however, came back strongly against South Africa in the 3rd ODI, as they chased down 353 in 49 overs courtesy of unbelievable efforts from Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha, who stayed together for a gigantic 260-run partnership for the fourth wicket, helping them ace the chase by six wickets. As for the bowling, Shaheen Afridi has picked five wickets in two games so far but has proven a bit expensive with his economy rate around 7.7.
As we prepare for the final showdown, let's have a look at the head-to-head stats between these two nations in ODI cricket.

New Zealand opted to bat first and put up a mammoth total of 330 runs for the loss of six wickets after the completion of their 50 overs. The highlight was Glenn Phillips' 106 not out, who was outstandingly supported by Daryl Mitchell's 81 and Kane Williamson's 58.
While Shaheen Afridi picked three wickets for 88 runs, Abrar Ahmed, on the other hand, was more economical with figures of 2 for 41 in his 10 overs. In return, the Kiwi bowlers were more productive and proved lethal on that surface, as they bowled the Pakistani side out for 252 inside 48 overs.
Fakhar Zaman was the lone warrior with 84 runs from 69 deliveries. Whereas, from the bowling lineup, Matt Henry and skipper Mitchell Santner grabbed three wickets each. Despite all the effort from Zaman, Pakistan fell short by 78 runs as the Kiwis clinched the first ODI of the Tri-Nation series, 2025.
