As India prepares to kick off their home season with a much-anticipated two-match Test series against Bangladesh, the stage is set for another thrilling chapter in their red-ball rivalry. Over the years, India has held the upper hand in this contest, with Bangladesh struggling to make a significant impact in Test cricket against their more seasoned neighbours.

IND vs BAN: What Does The Head to Head Record Say?

With the first Test set to start at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday, all eyes will be on how the teams fare in this fresh encounter. The history between these two sides is one of dominance by India, but Bangladesh will be eager to change the script this time around.

India has largely dominated their encounters, having won 11 of the 13 matches played, while Bangladesh is yet to taste victory. The remaining two matches ended in draws, with Bangladesh finding it tough to break India’s iron grip on the rivalry.

India’s relationship with Bangladesh in Test cricket has been somewhat distant. Despite introducing Bangladesh to Test cricket in 2000, it took 17 years before India hosted them for a Test.

Since then, the story has been much the same: India’s supremacy at home and Bangladesh’s struggle to gain a foothold, particularly in foreign conditions. Like chalk and cheese, India’s success at home has been overwhelming, with 17 consecutive series wins and only four losses in the past 11 years.

IND vs BAN Test History Recap

Looking back at their clashes, India drew first blood in 2000 with a commanding 9-wicket victory in Dhaka. The 2004-05 series further cemented India’s dominance as they thrashed Bangladesh in both Tests by an innings margin.

The 2007 series saw some resistance from Bangladesh, with the first match ending in a draw, but India roared back to win the second Test by an innings and 239 runs. The script remained the same in 2009-10, with India cruising to two victories. The one-off Test in 2015 saw Bangladesh salvage a draw, despite India piling on 462 runs.

When Bangladesh toured India for the first time in 2017, a resurgent Indian side led by Virat Kohli crushed them by 208 runs. The 2019 series marked India’s first-ever day-night Test at home, and they celebrated it with an innings victory in both matches.

In 2022, Bangladesh came close to turning the tide but fell short as India walked away with yet another series sweep, 2-0.

As the new IND vs BAN series approaches, Bangladesh faces an uphill task—upsetting one of the most formidable Test teams on home soil. Will Bangladesh finally rise to the occasion or will India continue to assert their dominance? Only time will tell.
