The much-anticipated T20I series between India and England is set to begin on Wednesday, (January 22) at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The first match of the five-match series will kick off at 7:00 PM IST. 

For India, led by the dynamic Suryakumar Yadav, this series comes on the back of a dominant performance in their last T20I series. The Men in Blue had a stellar run during their series against Bangladesh in October 2024. In this series India dominated Bangladesh and won the 3-0, sweeping the visitors with ease. 

On the other hand, England enters the series after a successful T20I campaign against the West Indies in November 2024. The English team emerged victorious in the five-match series, securing a 3-1 win. Under the leadership of Jos Buttler, England will be keen to continue their winning ways in India.

India and England have played 24 T20I matches against each other. India has won 13, while Australia has won only won 11 matches. No matches have ended in draw or tie. India’s win percentage stands at 54.17%, while England win percentage is at 45.83 %.

India and England last played against each other on June 27 2024, in the Semi Final 2 of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Guyana National Stadium. Talking about the match, England won the toss and elected to bowl first and posted 171 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Rohit Sharma led the charge with a solid 57 runs off 39 balls, anchoring the innings. Suryakumar Yadav also contributed significantly, playing a quick cameo and scoring 47 runs off 36 balls. 

Hardik Pandya came in towards the end and provided the finishing touch with a fiery knock. He smashed 23 runs off just 13 balls, taking India to a competitive total. 

In reply, England’s chase faltered right from the start. Captain Jos Buttler was dismissed for 23 runs off 15 balls, and Harry Brook contributed 25 runs off 19 balls, but there was little support from the rest of the batting lineup.
