Sri Lanka will be walking out in a fight for existence against Nepal in the 23rd match of the T20 World Cup 2024. Notably, with an extra game played and a worse net run rate than Nepal, Sri Lanka is currently at the bottom of group D, below their opposition in the match.

The Sri Lankan team have a history of finding a way to do well in the ICC tournaments, irrespective of their performances throughout the calendar. The same was expected of them at the start of the T20 World Cup 2024. However, things turned out to be a nightmare for Sri Lanka in the tournament.

They submitted without resistance against South Africa in their first outing and then lost a close affair to Bangladesh in their second match. Now, they stand on the cusp of elimination with two games remaining for them in the group stage. Sri Lanka now need to win both their games by a massive margin, and to do that, they might bring in a couple or atleast one change for the match against Nepal.

One of the most evident changes might be the axing of Dasun Shanaka. In the two matches that Shanaka has played, he has failed to deliver either with the bat or the ball. Dunith Wellalage could be brought in to replace Shanaka.

Sri Lanka might also look to drop Matheesha Pathirana, who has not delivered as expected in the tournament. Dushmantha Chameera could replace him for the game.

These two changes might be brought in for Sri Lanka for the game against Sri Lanka.
