Sri Lanka did the unthinkable and thrashed New Zealand in both the Test matches to inflict a series clean sweep over the visitors. The home team played some outstanding cricket and never gave New Zealand a chance to crawl back in the contest.

The series win had many stars, including the ever-reliant, Kamindu Mendis, who is getting compared to the great Sir Don Bradman. The Shane Warne of spin-bowling, Prabath Jayasuriya continues to weave his magic, and the Lankan Lions found a new hero in Nishan Peiris.

So, with the series done and dusted, we look at 3 things Sri Lanka bolstered after the series clean sweep Vs New Zealand.

Kamindu Mendis - A brilliant batter on path to greatness

There is nothing that Kamindu Mendis cannot do at the moment. How many youngsters get compared to Don Bradman? Very few, and Mendis is one of them, partly due to his stunning 91.27 average in Test cricket.

91.27 after 8 Tests, including 5 centuries, Mendis is a run-machine and is already on the path to greatness. Ever since the retirement of Mahela Jawawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, Sri Lanka have been creaving for a solid middle-order batter, and their prayers were answered as Mendis has been nothing short of miracle.

If he continues on the same path, who knows, Mendis could break many more records in the upcoming years. He already has 1,000 runs in Test cricket this year, and there's surely more to come.

Nishan Peiris - Another mystery spinner from Sri Lanka

Muttiah Muralitharan, Rangana Herath, Ajantha Mendis, Prabath Jayasuriya and now Nishan Peiris, Sri Lanka have been blessed to have quality spinners in their ranks. Peiris was handed his debut cap in the second Test at Galle, and he showed his magic in the second innings.

The young mystery spinner was magical with the ball, picking up 6-wickets to stun the Kiwi batting lineup. He looked confident and most importantly, the New Zealand batters found it hard to read him properly. If Sri Lanka nurture him well in the near future, the Island Nation could boast two of the best spinners in Test cricket - Jayasuriya and Peiris.

Jayasuriya - The right man in charge for the Lankan Lions

Sri Lanka were in crisis when Sanath Jayasuriya decided to become the interim head coach of the side. Not a lot was expected of him, but fast forward almost 3 months later, he helped Sri Lanka win the ODI series against India, plus, the Asian side defeated England at the Oval recently, and have now thrashed the Kiwis in a one-sided affair.

The players love him, and that is a sign of a great coach. Jayasuriya looks to have great man-management skills, which are important at this level of the game. He has taken Sri Lankan cricket in the right direction, and has deservingly being given a contract extension by the board.
