Success comes with hard work and patience whether in sport or life. The likes of Mumbai Indians (MI), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have shown it in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and their overall success speaks volumes.
Talking about KKR, two of their biggest strength of the defending champions are the evergreen presence of two giants of the format – Sunil Narine and Andre Russell. The latter, in particular, has the aura to turn things around single-handedly, and here, in this article, we will analyse which three of the upcoming IPL 2025 fixtures he could target to stamp his authority yet again.
1. Royal Challengers Bangalore (May 17, M Chinnaswamy Stadium)
Innings | Runs | Strike Rate |
---|---|---|
17 | 423 | 198.59 |
Innings | Wickets | Economy Rate |
---|---|---|
16 | 17 | 9.36 |

If one man RCB really fears to face over the years in the IPL, that person is none other than Dre Russ. The impact he made in Bengaluru during IPL 2019 with an outrageous 13-ball 48 not out, laced with seven huge sixes, was the biggest of all, and from thereon, the Jamaican all-rounder has been the man on a mission, particularly when he comes to launch thunderbolts against Virat Kohli and his boys.
The above-mentioned spectacular numbers tell the story that Russell has been a consistent destroyer of the Red and Gold brigade, and when they meet again at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the numbers are expected to go only higher.
2. Delhi Capitals (April 29, Arun Jaitley Stadium)
Innings | Runs | Strike Rate |
---|---|---|
12 | 375 | 172.81 |
Innings | Wickets | Economy Rate |
---|---|---|
15 | 15 | 8.49 |

Russell, the six-hitting machine, has an excellent overall numbers against his former IPL franchise Delhi Capitals. His batting average of 37.5 is even better than his numbers against RCB, taking the chances of him proving his worth yet again when they face the newly-looked Delhi-based franchise on April 29 at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Considering the fact that Russell, over the years, has been KKR’s one of the death-over specialists, his improved economy rate against DC also shows that he can be equally impactful with the ball in hand as well.
3. Punjab Kings (April 26, Eden Gardens)
Innings | Runs | Strike Rate |
---|---|---|
13 | 432 | 200 |
Innings | Wickets | Economy Rate |
---|---|---|
13 | 15 | 10.76 |
The Punjab Kings fixture at Eden Gardens will be the talk of the town mainly because that will mark the return of Shreyas Iyer, their title-winning captain, to his ‘second home’. However, to ruin it completely, Russell will be waiting as the leader of the pack, and his outrageous numbers against them prove that he will go with no holds barred.
Even though Russell has an expensive economy rate against Punjab, don’t be surprised if he keeps chipping in with important wickets to restrict the run-flow of the franchise, who lately began to advocate for the ultra-aggressive approach.
