Former Pakistan cricket team captain, Babar Azam, has voiced his dissatisfaction after being demoted to the number three position in the batting order. Addressing the media during a PSL 2024 press conference, Azam expressed his disappointment over the decision, stating that he had accepted the change for the team's sake.

Azam, known for his stellar performances as an opener, revealed that while he doesn't feel pressured when opening the innings in T20Is, he wasn't entirely satisfied with the demotion. However, he emphasized that he complied with the team's requirements, prioritizing Pakistan's interests over personal preferences.

Here's what he said:

“I don’t feel or take any pressure whenever I open the innings (in T20Is). The team was demanding me to come down to No. three and I did it for the team. If asked from a personal perspective, I was not satisfied with the move but I did it for Pakistan.”

Despite his remarkable career statistics, with an average of over 40 in T20 cricket, Azam has often faced criticism for his strike rate, which is less than 130 in nearly 300 matches.

However, in the ongoing PSL 2024 season, Azam has silenced his critics with extraordinary performances. In seven matches, he has amassed 394 runs at an impressive average of 65.66 and a remarkable strike rate of 152.12, including one century and three half-centuries.

Following Peshawar Zalmi's narrow victory over the Multan Sultans, Azam took the opportunity to respond to his detractors during the post-match presentation ceremony. His outstanding display in the PSL not only reinforces his prowess but also highlights the challenges faced by players in handling public scrutiny and expectations.
