Pakistan and New Zealand finally took on each other in the World Cup warm-up fixture on September 29 at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad. The game turned out to be a high-scoring contest as nearly 700 runs were scored in two completed innings. Babar’s decision to bat first paid dividends straight away as the Men in Green made the most of the favorable batting conditions to post a massive score of 345/5 in their allotted 50 overs.

In response, New Zealand commenced their chase on a very assuring note as Rachin Ravindra got involved in a massive century stand with Kane Williamson. While Pakistan were desperately looking for a wicket at this stage, a bizarre incident came to light during the 24th over of the second innings.

During the second ball of the 24th over, Agha Salman bowled a terrible half-tracker to Tom Latham which bounced twice before reaching him. Latham, who was looking to get a move on was in search of such freebies. The ball arrived to him after a couple of bounces and he had all the time in the world to get that away to deep fine leg for a boundary. And to rub salt in the wounds, the delivery was called a no-ball which gave Latham an extra delivery to score off. Understandably, Agha was very embarrassed after bowling that delivery which also left other players baffled.

Such types of incidents in international cricket are rarely observed. But when they do occur, it leaves everyone in splits. Agha eventually finished the game with figures of 8-0-60-1 with a solitary wicket of Rachin Ravindra.

Although he did manage to prevent Ravindra from getting to his century, Agha was very erratic with the ball and New Zealand went on to win that match quite comfortably by 5 wickets and 38 balls to spare.
