England fast bowler Jofra Archer returned to wicket-taking action for Sussex 2nd XI at Beckenham on May 17. The speedster sent down six overs during Kent’s second innings, finishing with figures of 1-11.

Prior to his recent outing, Archer was sidelined from competitive cricket since May last year after he sustained a back injury while playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023 season.

Following his successful return to the field, England captain Jos Buttler expressed his admirations for the 29-year-old paceman as his team braces itself for their upcoming home T20I series against Pakistan as well as for the subsequent T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA.

Jos Buttler welcomes Jofra Archer’s return

Jos Buttler, who recently returned to England from the ongoing IPL 2024 season in India, expressed his delight over Jofra Archer’s return to action.

“It’s a huge encouragement for him to be back and see him ready to play. As a captain he is someone you can always turn to in a game because he always has a trick up his sleeve. He has been out of it for a while now so we will need to look after him and realize that it might just take him a little while to be the Jofra of 2019.”

After playing for Sussex 2nd XI, Jofra Archer will be expected to join the England cricket team at Leeds ahead of their series-opener against Pakistan. The first of the four matches will be staged on May 22 at the Headingley Cricket Ground.

England will enter the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA as defending champions. They will face Scotland in their opening Group B game at Barbados on June 4.
