Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya failed to capitalise on Rohit Sharma’s blistering start at the top of the order against LSG in match number 67 of the IPL 2024 season. Leading his team in front of their home crowd at the Wankhede Stadium, skipper Pandya was dismissed for a mere 16 in a run-chase of 215.

The cricketer was trapped by a short delivery from LSG speedster Mohsin Khan during the 14th over of the Mumbai Indians innings.

Batting at number five, Hardik Pandya arrived to the crease following the dismissal of opening batter Rohit Sharma at 97-3 in 10.5 overs.

While the cricketer swatted LSG spinner Ravi Bishnoi for a four and a six for a 14-run over, his attempted uppercut off Mohsin Khan was safely pouched by an agile Naveen-ul-Haq at deep third man.

Hardik Pandya’s dismissal at 16 sustained Mumbai Indians’ middle-order collapse as they slipped from 88-0 to a precarious 116-4 while chasing a 215-run total. Moreover, Nehal Wadhera also made his way back to the sheds the following over as Mumbai Indians' troubles worsened to 120-5 in less than 15 overs.

Earlier in the match, LSG stacked up a staggering 214-6 from 20 overs, courtesy of captain KL Rahul’s fluent 55 and Nicholas Pooran’s blistering 29-ball 75. Hardik Pandya himself conceded 27 runs from his two overs in the innings after LSG were backed in the corner at 69-3.

In response, legendary Mumbai Indians opener Rohit Sharma scorched LSG’s new-ball attack with a sizzling 38-ball 68 at the top of the order. However, his dismissal triggered a colossal batting collapse within the Mumbai Indians camp.

The match against LSG marks the final game of the IPL 2024 season for Hardik Pandya and co., and a defeat at this stage would ensure a bottom finish for them at the points table.
