The T20 World Cup is just two months away and the buzz has already started regarding the potential Indian squad for the mega event.

We already know the core of the squad, with Rohit Sharma leading the T20 World Cup team. However, if we look at the ongoing IPL season, the Indian skipper has failed to deliver the goods. Moreover, Mumbai Indians' captin, Hardik Pandya has also failed in all departments and faces scrutiny from the fans.

With the big names failing to live up to the expectations, there have been some underrated players, who have done well for their franchises.

With 15 matches done and dusted in the IPL season, we at OneCricket have a look at the 'potential' India squad for the T20 World Cup - solely on the basis of 'this' IPL season.

Top Order batters

Virat Kohli, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma

Easy choice for openers. A lot has been said about Virat Kohli's strike-rate in the T20 format, but the former RCB skipper has once again showed his true class in the 4 matches he has played so far. The RCB opening batter has racked up 203 runs in 4 matches, at a strike-rate of 140. Moreover, he is the current holder of the Orange Cap.

Talking about Abhishek, he lit up the IPL with a blistering knock against the Mumbai Indians. The southpaw smashed the fastest fifty of the tournament (2024) in 16 balls and made a big statement with his bat doing the talking. India need a firepower opener at the top and Abhishek's presence will allow Kohli to play his natural game.

It has been a dismissal tournament for the MI batters so far, but the lone shining light has been the form of Tilak Varma. In 3 matches, he has scored 121 runs, and the highlight of which was the stunning 64 against SRH in a chase of 277.

Middle-order batters

Riyan Parag, Rishabh Pant, Shivam Dube, Krunal Pandya

What a story it has been for Riyan Parag. From getting trolled for his performances last season, to being the main guy for Rajasthan Royals, it has been an incredible journey for the RR all-rounder. RR is the only unbeaten team in the IPL 2024, and a majority of the credit goes to Parag's brilliance.

He has slammed 181 runs in 3 matches, and is only behind Virat Kohli in terms of runs scored this season.

With Ishan Kishan and Jitesh Sharma yet to fire for their respective franchises, Pant has slowly and steadily moved ahead in the pecking order. The aggressive batter was out of cricket due to a lengthy injury and made a comeback in the ongoing tournament.

He played a quick-fire innings against the Chennai Super Kings, which shows that he still has the aggressive mindset needed.

From being an outcast at RCB, to being one of the most reliable players in the CSK team, Dube has come a long way. An undisputed started in the CSK squad, he played a blinder against RCB in the tournament opener, and can. also chip in with a couple of wickets in the middle-overs.

After losing the first match against Rajasthan Royals, LSG needed an inspirational performance in the second game against PBKS, and Krunal provided just that. He blasted a brilliant 22-ball 43, and showcased that if India need a finisher at number 7, he can be the first choice.

Bowlers

Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Mayank Yadav, Mohit Sharma

The leading wicket-taker in IPL history, Yuzvendra Chahal has once again delivered for his side in the first three matches. The main man for RR, he has scalped 6 wickets in 3 matches, at an economy of just 5.50 runs per over. The slow wickets of West Indies will suit his style of bowling.

If India need to win the T20 World Cup, then Bumrah has to play a pivotal part in it. If Tilak has shown with the bat for MI, then Bumrah has been the architect with the ball. The wicket column will only show 3 wickets, but he has consistently bamboozled the batters at an economy of just 6.33

Mayank Yadav has been the find of IPL 2024. In his first two IPL matches, the young pace bowling sensation has picked up 6 wickets, and bagging the Player of the Match award in those games. Not only the wicket column, but the sheer amount of pace he generates (more than 150 clicks per hour), has garnered attention from everyone.

With Mohammad Shami ruled out of IPL, Mohit Sharma has taken the onus to be main bowler for the Gujarat Titans. He has taken 6 wickets in 3 matches, at an economy of 7.75. His back of the hand slower delivery can be quite useful in the Windies conditions.
