Rajasthan Royals suffered a heartbreaking defeat last night, as Delhi Capitals pipped them in the Super Over in a high-scoring thriller at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. In a move that surprised many, the Royals didn't send their in-form batter Nitish Rana to bat in the super over.

Why RR Didn't Send Nitish Rana In Super Over?

Meanwhile, Rana himself came forward to defend the decision, explaining why RR preferred Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag over him in the dramatic face-off.

In the post-match press conference, Rana revealed that the RR think tank sent Hetmyer to bat in the super over, considering his extraordinary finishing prowess.

"The management takes the call, not one person. If Shimron Hetmyer had hit two sixes, then you wouldn't be asking this question. Whatever decisions we took was absolutely right. Hetmyer is our finisher, that everyone knows. He has delivered in the past," Rana was quoted as saying by India Today.

RR Suffer Close Defeat Despite Rana's Blitzkreig

Regarding the match, Delhi Capitals powered themselves to a challenging total of 188 runs, riding on valuable contributions from Abhishek Porel, KL Rahul, Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs. In response, Rajasthan Royals were cruising towards victory at one stage.

However, Mitchell Starc swung the game in DC's favour, bowling a sensational final spell and taking the game to the super over. The veteran Australian speedster sustained his dream run in the super over as well, with the Capitals eventually securing a hard-fought win in the end.
