Cricket fever is reaching its peak as the countdown to the Champions Trophy begins. As the tournament is commencing within a week, the cricket world is all excited to witness another new chapter of the IND-PAK rivalry.
In the final match in 2017, the arch-rivals locked horns and the ‘Men In Green’ defeated Team India by a massive margin. As the tournament is coming up with a new edition, former Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed looked back into the thrilling match.
Sarfaraz Ahmed Looks Back To Champions Trophy 2017 Final
The previous edition of the Champions Trophy added two exciting chapters in the India-Pakistan rivalry. While facing Pakistan in the group stage, Virat Kohli’s Team India registered a thrilling win. But the scenario changed in the final match as Pakistan crushed them by 180 runs in a one-sided final. Before the Champions Trophy 2025 starts, Sarfaraz Ahmed relived the memory.
“Afterwards (following defeat to India in the group stage), we had a great team meeting, and some of our senior guys - Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez - all said their piece. You need those types of characters around you. We changed our mindset from that day. The acrimony was very good for us, we made a couple of changes to the team and it helped our confidence.” Sarfaraz Ahmed said.
“We played England in the semi-finals and our bowlers were just superb…Then, it was India in the final. I was just confident our level was very high and my message to the players ahead of the final was to relax. We knew we had beaten some of the best teams, so India was nothing we had not seen,” he added.
Another Chapter In India-Pakistan Rivalry Awaits
After 8 long years, the Champions Trophy is coming back. As the tournament is being played in a hybrid model, Team India will play all their matches in Dubai. While India kicks off their campaign against Bangladesh in February, the real spotlight will shine on February 23, when the iconic India-Pakistan rivalry takes center stage once again.
As Team India faced a heartbreaking defeat in the 2017 Champions Trophy final, Rohit Sharma and Co. will try hard to take the revenge back. On the flip side, the host will try hard to keep their domination alive. Fans are anticipating another thrilling encounter.
