Tait reflects on Ankon's exclusion (Source: AFP Photos)
After a dominating Test series victory over Ireland, Bangladesh started the T20I series with a setback. But the Tigers bounced back fiercely in the second match, claiming a commanding victory to even the series.
As Bangladesh is enjoying the outings, Mahidul Islam Ankon is having a hard time as he is yet to play the first game of the series. Speaking at a press conference, pace coach Shaun Tait didn’t hold back, indicating the move towards the selection committee.
Tait opens up on the controversial snub of Ankon
After a dominating whitewash against Ireland in the two-match Test series, Bangladesh eyed a dominating start in the T20I series, but Ireland stunned the Tigers with a dominating victory in the first game. After the Irish side took the lead, Bangladesh leveled the series with a victory in the second match. Despite being included in the squad with a hope of a T20I debut, Mahidul Islam Ankon just warmed the bench.
As the third match is nearing, it seems like he will continue that, especially after he appeared nowhere in the coaching group’s plans during training. When asked about the situation in the press conference, Bangladesh’s pace bowling coach Shaun Tait finally broke his silence.
“I'm not a selector. You have to ask the selectors that question,” Tait said.
Tait’s bold take on the upcoming big match
After facing a 39-run defeat in the first T20I match, Bangladesh showcased their character. Chasing the 171-run target, Parvez Hossain Emon and captain Litton Das’ crucial knock, they registered a massive 4-wicket victory. With that, the third T20I match turned out to be a decider one as the series is hanging in a 1-1 tie. Before stepping into the match, Tait kept things simple, insisting the team’s only focus is to play good cricket.
“I think we don't need to complicate our thoughts too much. We just need to play good cricket and win the game. Every time you win an international match, you gain some confidence out of that. The best thing we can do is build on that confidence and take it into tomorrow's game,” he added.
On December 2, Bangladesh will face Ireland in the third T20I match of the three-match series. As the victory will decide the winner of the series, both will be looking forward to step into the field with all intensity.
