Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja took a sarcastic jibe at ex-Pakistan legend Waqar Younis during a TV show. He pointed out to Younis that Afghanistan has won more games in ICC events compared to Pakistan in the recent past.

Pakistan were eliminated from ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after losing their first two fixtures against New Zealand and India. The host nation became the first team to get an exit pass in the tournament.

After 29 years, Pakistan were hosting an ICC event but the team’s failure put a dent on the home crowd’s euphoria.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan had their last game against Australia abandoned due to rain but their semi-final qualification hopes lie on the next fixture between South Africa and England.

Ajay Jadeja takes a swipe at Waqar Younis over Pakistan’s debacle

That being said, during the pre-game TV show, former Indian cricketer and ex-Pakistan legend Waqar Younis was seated on the panel as they discussed Afghanistan's performance.

Jadeja, who previously mentored the Afghanistan cricket team in the T20 World Cup, pointed out that Afghanistan has outperformed Pakistan in the last three ICC tournaments, urging experts and fans to stop considering their victories as flukes.

“They have won more games than your team, my friend, in ICC events. Anybody who thinks it’s a one-off thing is fooling themselves," Jadeja said.

The discussion took place during a panel talk where Waqar Younis questioned whether Afghanistan could defeat Australia after their stunning win over England.

The match between Afghanistan and Australia, unfortunately, ended in a washout, allowing Australia to advance to the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s hopes now depend on England handing South Africa a massive defeat, which seems highly improbable given England’s recent form.

Can Afghanistan still make it to the Champions Trophy semi-final?

Afghanistan finds itself in a tricky situation after their crucial match against Australia was washed out.

Currently, Australia has qualified with four points, while both South Africa and Afghanistan sit at three points each. England, already eliminated, has no wins in their two matches.

For Afghanistan to qualify, England must beat South Africa by at least 207 runs if they bat first, assuming they post a total of over 300.

If England chases, they need to reach the target in just 11.1 overs (assuming a 300+ first-innings score).
