The Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed 15 Super Overs since its inception, with only a handful of teams emerging victorious in these high-pressure tiebreakers. Among them, one team stand atop with four Super Over wins, showcasing their nerve in crunch moments.

Let's take a look at this analysis, which delves into the teams with the most Super Over triumphs, examining pivotal matches, standout performers, and tactical brilliance that defined these thrillers.

5. Mumbai Indians (2 Wins)

Mumbai Indians’ two Super Over victories both came in high-stakes scenarios. Their 2017 clash against Gujarat Lions saw Krunal Pandya’s all-round brilliance, scoring 45 runs and taking 2/14, before defending 12 runs in the Super Over.

In 2019, Jasprit Bumrah’s lethal bowling (3/25) restricted Sunrisers Hyderabad to 162, forcing a tie. Bumrah then conceded just 8 runs in the Super Over, allowing Hardik Pandya to seal the win with a six off Rashid Khan. These wins underscored Mumbai’s ability to thrive under playoff pressure, with Bumrah’s 2019 performance earning him Man of the Match honours.

4. Rajasthan Royals (2 Wins)

Rajasthan Royals scripted the IPL’s first Super Over win in 2009 against Kolkata Knight Riders, with Yusuf Pathan’s 42* and 2/18 steering them to victory.

Their 2014 duel with KKR in Abu Dhabi saw James Faulkner’s 3/11 restrict KKR to 152, before Steve Smith’s icy composure secured two runs off the final Super Over delivery. Royals’ wins highlighted their tactical adaptability, particularly in leveraging all-rounders like Faulkner, who claimed Man of the Match for his bowling masterclass.

3. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (2 Wins)

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Super Over pedigree revolves around Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. In 2013, Kohli’s 65 and de Villiers’ 39 tied the game against Delhi Daredevils at 152, before de Villiers smacked two sixes off Umesh Yadav in the Super Over.

Their 2020 win over Mumbai Indians saw de Villiers again shine, hammering 55* and hitting the winning four in the tiebreaker. These victories exemplified RCB’s reliance on star power, with Kohli and de Villiers claiming Man of the Match awards in their respective games.

2. Punjab Kings (3 Wins)

Punjab Kings’ three wins include the IPL’s only double Super Over in 2020 against Mumbai Indians. KL Rahul’s 77* and Chris Gayle’s boundary off Jasprit Bumrah in the second Super Over sealed the historic win.

Earlier, in 2010, Rusty Theron’s 3/17 against Chennai Super Kings and 2015 Shaun Marsh’s 65* against Rajasthan Royals laid the foundation for their tiebreaker triumphs. Punjab’s adaptability in chaotic finishes, particularly through Rahul’s leadership in 2020, cemented their reputation as Super Over specialists.

1. Delhi Capitals (4 Wins)

Delhi Capitals dominate the Super Over arena with four wins, blending youth and experience. Their recent 2025 thriller against Rajasthan Royals on April 16 saw Mitchell Starc defend 9 runs before the Super Over after tying at 188, earning Man of the Match.

Earlier, Marcus Stoinis’ all-round show (53* and 3/26) against Punjab in 2020 and Prithvi Shaw’s 56* in 2021 versus Sunrisers Hyderabad showcased their depth. DC’s 2019 win over Kolkata Knight Riders, fueled by Shaw’s 99, highlighted their emergence as clutch performers, with each victory reinforcing their strategic depth in pressure scenarios.
