After a disappointing run of form for India's opener KL Rahul, the right-hander has copped some severe criticism from the experts of the game. More importantly, he was stripped of the vice-captaincy with the Indian team choosing no one on an immediate basis.

Former Indian cricketer and head coach, Ravi Shastri has reckoned that he doesn't feel that a deputy is required in home conditions as it complicates things further if you want to look at the alternatives.

Moreover, he pointed out that Rahul is not in the state to play as vice-captain and hence, they might be looking at Shubman Gill to replace the senior pro. Further, he thinks that a captain can choose his substitution whenever he is about to go out or leave for a brief period.

“The staff administration is aware of his (Rahul’s) kind, they know his psychological state. They know the way they need to be watching somebody like Gill,"

"I all the time had the assumption (to) by no means appoint a vice-captain for India. I’d somewhat go together with by greatest XI, and if captain has to depart the sector, you’d zero in on a participant that may take over on the time, merely since you don’t have to create issues,”

The 60-year-old mentioned that Gill has got unmatched potential which could be utilised well if given an opportunity.

“Right here, you need prime kind, you need somebody like Gill, who’s crimson scorching. He’ll problem. He has to bang that door down and get into the aspect. Now, he’s not the vice-captain, it must be staff administration’s choice.”

It remains to be seen if Rahul saves his place or if young Shubman gets his chance in the third Test against Australia that begins on 1st March in Indore.
