Australia's Steve Smith opened up on his experience of captaining MS Dhoni in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. Smith and Dhoni were part of the Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in IPL 2017. While Dhoni led the team in its debut IPL season, Smith took over the reigns from him in the following year.

Smith touched upon Dhoni's quality of remaining calm in every situation and also said that it is a quality he imbibed while sharing the dressing room with the latter.

"I guess, the calmness that MS shows (was the learning). We saw throughout his career, how calm he was. He didn't look like he was flustered by any emotions. That certainly something I've taken from him, not just in that season, but just watching him go about his business," Smith said as quoted to Star Sports.

After a disastrous season that had Dhoni at the helm saw RPS finish seventh on the points table, he was replaced by Smith. Under the captaincy of the 33-year-old, the Pune-based franchise played the final of IPL 2017 versus Mumbai Indians.

Smith has not been picked up by any of the team for IPL 2023 and will be seen commentating during the tournament on Star Sports.
