England will begin their T20 World Cup 2022 campaign against Afghanistan on Saturday and they have been dealt a major injury blow.

Key pace Reece Topley picked up an ankle injury during a fielding drill and he missed the warm-up game against Pakistan as a result of that. It remains to be seen whether Topley can return to action soon.

The true extent of the damage is yet to be determined and the Three Lions will be hoping that it's not a serious injury. Topley has been a key player for England in T20Is this year. Topley has picked up 17 wickets in T20Is this year and he is England's top wicket-taker in the shortest format of the game in 2022.

Meanwhile, England bowler Sam Curran seems upbeat about his side's chances in the World Cup regardless of the injury blow.

Curran believes that England have the strength in depth to step up and get the job done in Topley's absence.

He added that England feel they are well prepared heading into the showpiece event and their performances against Pakistan and Australia in recent months show that they can take on the big guns and come out on top.

Curran said, as quoted by Metro

"We’re definitely ready now. We’re feeling like we’re almost…not peaking, but we’re playing good cricket, (as shown in winning series against) Pakistan and Australia, then this game. We’re really excited. Hopefully with a couple of good training sessions in Perth, come the weekend we’ll be good."
