Several former players backed Australia to give India a tough time in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023, which the former trail by 0-2 after losing both the Nagpur and Delhi Tests in an embarrassing manner.

Despite having a star-studded batting line-up, the Australian batter have surrendered to the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, collapsing twice in as many matches.

Former Indian player Gautam Gambhir believes that the visitors' chances of a comeback solely depend on individual performances in the upcoming matches.

Speaking to official broadcasters, the former KKR captain said that it will be difficult for Australian batters to change their technique mid-way, after losing their self-confidence.

Here's what Gambhir said

"I believe you cannot teach defense to these batters now. If you try to improve your technique in the middle of the series, you won't even score the 260 and 120 you scored. Only individual performances can help Australia stage a comeback and not a collective performance.”

However, Gambhir maintained that a series whitewash cannot be predicted, as the likes of Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja can anytime turn the tables in Australia's favour with their batting.

Both teams will meet at Indore on March 1, the venue for the third Test.
